BIOGRAPHY
Marion Maur
Chef/Owner of Marion’s Country Kitchen
Prior to opening Marion’s Country Kitchen, Marion played a pivotal role in opening the highly successful restaurants of SUSHISAMBA (New York, Miami & Chicago) where she served as a project manager overseeing the construction, decoration and installation of everything from wall treatments to uniforms for the staff to choosing the drink specials for the opening party. She also opened and managed such high volume restaurants as Rue 57 and Howard Stein’s critically acclaimed French fine dining restaurant Gertrude’s. During these exciting and educating years in Manhattan , Marion realized that simplicity, sincerity, quality and a big smile are the main ingredients for a successful restaurant.
Marion grew up in the beautiful wine country in a small town on the river Rhine called Neuwied .
After working for two years in a small boutique hotel at the Belgian coast, she followed her calling and went to hotel school in Glion , Switzerland . A month after graduating she started a prolific management career with the Hyatt hotel chain bringing her around to various locales throughout Europe .
Eleven years ago, she changed her path and came to Manhattan where she had to start all over again but found her niche in opening restaurants as a project manager.
And then came Woodstock …
Five years ago, her boyfriend, Adam Jacobs bought a house in Woodstock , which soon became their hideaway from the constant pressures of city living. Although Woodstock is in the country and has small town character, both Marion and Adam love the fact that it maintains a cosmopolitan flair unlike the usual small suburban towns.
In 2004 Marion ’s dream came true when she was offered the opportunity to open her own restaurant. Finally, she could combine her professional experience with her love for food, wine, throwing parties and most importantly, making people happy.
